I'm new to this sewing thing (which will become obvious when you see the pics!  Cheesy). I've sewn a hair bow and two pillows for my kids, but I hadn't tried following a pattern before. So when I came across this patter (http://flossieteacakes.blogspot.com/2009/05/lined-zippered-pouch-make-up-bag.html) I had to try it because I needed something to put my knitting accessories in.

You'll notice that mine looks nothing like the one in the link. This is because the zipper was sticking out further than the fabric, and I thought (in all my expertise) that that wasn't right, so I grabbed the scissors and halfway through cutting off the "excess" I realized the logistics of it and thought "OMG what have I done??!"  Cheesy

But in the end I saved it, sort of. The plus side is that now I know what I'm doing, and I now have a place to store my knitting whatnots.

I think it turned out great!  For my birthday my mom got me a little baggy with some knitting notions in it, and it's absolutely perfect.  I like having a little bag with me to keep all that stuff in.

That's terrific!  I have been sewing for a while - not especially good at it mind you, but when I first tried something with a zipper and a lining it was a disaster!!!  Yours is so cute and you'd never guess it wasn't like the pattern if you didn't point it out!  Love the fabric too.

It looks beautiful!  I never would have known you had trouble with it, or that it's not what you exactly expected.  It looks perfect!

I'd say it's more of a tutorial than a pattern - and tutorials are just ASKING for you do to everything differently! You should see the differences between bags I make and the tutorials I'm "following" Wink

It turned out really cute - I like your fabric combo.

Turned out great and such lovely fabrics!

I never do the fabric at the end of the zippers thing...I think it is too bulky!  What you did looks great, so maybe it was a good thing you followed your "instincts"!  I always cut the zipper to fit the bag size and just sew over all of the teeth... Cheesy

you have been progressing so wonderfully
