For anyone not familiar with Daleks: http://www.jeffbots.com/daleks.html. I got the idea from http://www.livejournal.com/users/doyle_sb4/349875.html. Ahh, the good old days...  Roll Eyes

Anyway, me and my sister made dalek-themed cakes for her brithday!

Obviously, fitting 18 candles onto it was a challenge, but...we managed it!

Comments appriciated! Cheesy

Thanks for your comments, guys Cheesy

We made it out of two basic circular chocolate cakes, one smaller than the other. I think the website suggested taht you could use a swiss roll, placed upright, instead. We put our home-made cakes on top of each other, and then... went mad with icing (only the green stuff is icing -- the sugar-mixed with water variety-- so it was pretty simple to do)! Add unravelled  liquerish wheels/allsorts, chococlate cigars, Minstrals, a lollypop and a load of other sweets, in a suitably dalek-y pattern, and... there you have it! Cake a la dalek  Grin

haha! I'm the one who posted about the Discworld cake tutorial and I've been wondering how these turned out since you posted about them in reply. My mom had just watched the Dr. Who - Invasion of the Daleks dvd from Netflix when you mentioned it. This looks great! How many did you make?

We only made the one -- it was pretty big, more than enough for my family and friends, and it took ages to make/decorate. If it had been smaller, maybe we could have made enough to create a whole dalek army!

OMG... I completely forgot about those things (Daleks).  I used to watch 'Dr. Who' here and there as a kid syndicated on some awful public access channel (well, awful except 'Dr. Who.' Or would that make them more awful?).  So bad, but so good!

Love the cake! Eat it up yum!

Love it, shame the candle wax dripped onto the cake itself.

I'm going to be watching it tonight, if the series hasn't finished.  Smiley

Well... they were supposed to be blue... but the blue dye mixed with the yellow-y icing and turned them green. By the end of it they did look a bit ... camp  Roll Eyes

i am crying with glee- and i'm not exaggerating.  there are tears in my eyes.  i love dr who and any reference to dr who and daleks (nearly peed myself when they were mentioned in coupling) and everyone thinks i'm crazy because dr who is not as big as it should be here in nj.

I LOVE THEM!  i'm going to make one right now eventhough my parents and i just ate 2 birthday cakes!

Tee hee.. I made one to. Well I made two but the first one was a disaster so in the end I ended up sticking 4 cakes together with chocolate fingers.. covering the whole thing in grey icing and then decorating it. I used minstrels for the bumps on my one and licorice laces for the lines.

Great Work!! . . . But now I've got "I Wanna Spend My Christmas with a Dalek" stuck in my head!

For those who have yet to suffer such pain, I offer:  http://www.millenniumeffect.co.uk/audio/tributes/gogo.html

Or, for the very brave, the song itself:
http://www.stomptokyo.com/extras/DalekXmas.mp3

Perhaps I should make a gingebread dalek this Christmas?

Okay, so I tried the Dalek cake...I figured since yesterday was my and my husband's first year anniversary and the finale of the current Doctor Who season, what better time? Well....My husband said that it looked like a Timmy Dalek. (For all you South Park fans...) Sort of scary. I have pictures but I have to get them developed first. He could tell instantly what it was and it was yummy but, well....It didn't turn out that well. Lol.

Gingerbread Daleks? That sounds like a fun idea. Smiley

I found  these ladies to be immensly helpful when I was debating how to make cakes that would either look like rusted, flaking metal,  or like asphalt with a flower growing out of it (wedding cake ideas!)   They love making gross (and AMAZING) stuff, so be forewarned.  Not for the squeamish.

Ahh...here's some more of their stuff, safer for the weak of tummy.

By the way, the lollipops for the Dalek arm-thingys made my day. Cheesy

Haha, EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

I love the new Dr. Who series. I missed a bunch of episodes, but they're showing them again on CBC. One of my favorite episodes was the two-parter "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", where a zombie army almost takes over London(and then the world0 during the Blitz. It sounds really cheesy, but it was SO creepy.
It's too bad Christopher Eccelston isn't coming back for the next season. But they introduced the new Doctor in a really neat way. Smiley

Omg. Freaky. British kids terrify me after watching that episode! Everytime I hear a British kid say, "Mummy!" I want to hide behind the sofa!
