the kit suggested using an eight inch diameter volleyball... i was actually stuck in my parents house in the middle of nowhere for the weekend so i just used the only vaguely-head shaped thing i could find, which was the soccer ball. it turned out a bit bigger than my head, but i think it was a good way to start. next time i think i'll use a canvas pattern as a resist and then block over a form? does that make sense?

Thanks for the follow up.  Sounds like an exceptionally great kit.  You made a swell adjustment using the soccer ball.  Your plan for next hat makes sense.  Welcome to the felting world!

I thought you did an awesome job, especially since you said it was your first felt hat ever!  The pattern was sweet!!!!!
