i started embroidering this past year. here's a few animal things i did. i like embroidering animals, fur is fun and easy to stitch. i haven't really done any human portraits, so i'm thinking that'll be my new obsession for this year.
all of these are free hand. i thread a needle and start.

this one i started last february and finished recently. meaning, i did 80% of it one week last february and picked it up again one day recently:

this one was this first one i ever did. i had only a few colors and i did it in a hour or so in a cafe.

saru are the japanese monkeys that hang out in hot springs. this is a bit of embroidered fabric sewn around a small button.

here's a pretty uncreative one i did last year. personally i'd like to move away from typical imagery in embroidery. but i like birds. this would be a lot more anatomically accurate in a line drawing but the way i modeled the form with the different shades makes it really wonky. i've only been doing free-handed pieces. i know i should spend more time on planning a piece out. this is the second thing after the fox.

wolf. i would say this shows my process but as you probably know from your own experience, processes are always changing.

thanks for looking! just joined, i'm excited to see projects from everyone else!

You did these free hand? OMG...

These are fantastic. I love the top hat accordion player. You managed to capture real character. I would love something like that, framed and in my hallway.

Well done!!!

I'm going to have to break my posting hiatus to say how much these rock. They look beautiful! Fur looks so effective in embroidery, and you clearly have an eye for colour and shape. Did you use references for any of these or just from your imagination?

Don't go too far with the pre-planning, your work is so beautiful the way it is.  You definitely have a signature style going on here that works for you.  Lovely, painterly stitching.  Like the others, I can't wait to see more.

You only started embroidering in the past year?!  You're great at it!!!  I can't even make two stitches look decent, and I've been trying to quite a while!

My favorite is the fox, he looks kinda folky, and kinda wonderful! Cheesy

Wow, these are so AWESOME.  I especially like the woodpecker, but I also really like birds so I'm a bit biased Smiley.  Is it a hairy or a downy (or something else entirely)?

You've inspired me.  I totally need to learn how to do this some day!
