I love mittens like this, and I love the colors you used. They look so warm!

I've just gotten to the thumb and I'm really confused.

"5sc, then sc the two sides together 6 stitches from the end."

Could someone please explain this to me?  Am I doing a slip stitch?  To where?

yeah, that is where I get confused too, does that meant you sc in the back loop of one stitch, then the front loop of the next?

I don't know if this is what the designer meant when she said to crochet in the front loop then the back loop of a stitch, but if you crochet in the front loop of a row for each row I believe (if I remember right) that it make a pseudo-rib stitch. It molds to the wrist and keeps the glove on better.
just a thought!
