I can't believe I haven't joined a fake swap yet. But the time has come.

Hello, my name is Wulf. ("Hello, Wulf!")
I'm joining the Fake Fabric Basket Swap. Send out by March 6th.

Not only do I need more baskets to store fabric in, but this seems to be a good way of using up some fabric stash and thereby reducing the need for baskets to store fabric in. It's win-win, in a roundabout sort of way. Grin

On the laundry detergent front, you might be interested to know that Ruth Goodman of the BBC "Victorian Farm" program says she stopped using detergent altogether in her home washing after her experience doing laundry the 19th c. way. She realized that modern washers did such a good job of physically scrubbing that the soap was unnecessary except for very greasy clothes. She'd expected to have to do a load with detergent every few months to keep things from getting dingy, but after many months without, the clothes were just as clean as ever. In fact the absence of detergent residue on the fabric left things brighter than they had been before!

I had been impressed with the soap nuts I'd tried last year instead of detergent, but after seeing "Victorian Farm" I realized maybe they weren't actually doing much at all!

Welcome to the joys of fake swapping, Wulf! And, I'm considering fake joining the fabric basket swap, too. They're on my to-do list, but I keep putting them off for other things... Maybe once I finish my fake eco/recycle/hippie swap I can give them a go.

And, thanks for the info on the use of no detergent! The science geek in me knows that it's really the water that does the cleaning, and that the detergent just helps to make the water's job a little easier, in some cases. But, the clean freak in me somehow won't listen to the science geek... yet...

Firstly, everyone's stuff is looking awesome! And I "recieved" today for my winter hippie swap!
I'm really happy with how everything turned out Smiley
Group shot:

Bleach pened jeans (I was so happy to save these jeans, they're my favorite and I spilled toilet bowl cleaner on them while cleaning), a tree of life necklace and matching bracelet in autum colours (I'm thinking of doing one for each season, this was my first time doing wire work and I love it) and a bag to carry my shoes to the gym.
Close up of the jewerly:

And as extra's I made stitch markers out of old penguin earings, but they're currently lost in my knitting basket Wink
I tried to get an action shot but lighting/dirty mirrors would not cooperate  Roll Eyes
Can't wait to pick my next fake swap!

Your partner rocks! Wink

I love the design on the jeans!

Wulf--I accidentally FORGOT to add detergent to a load of wash and realized that they still appeared to be cleaned!
I do think we tend to over wash our clothing...I started cutting the amount of detergent I was using in half and nobody got sick or looked dirty...seriously, how dirty can we get sitting in an INSIDE office?  Very interesting...

I am with craftADDchick...I think for me, it is more psychological than scientific...it would take some getting used to...but I am willing to change since my 2012 goals include being a lot less wasteful and more independent of commercial products and foods!

Love the jeans!  Great save.

Also enjoying reading about all the laundry detergent comments.   Lots of great thoughts.

Ditto on the jeans! I have a pair with a bleach spot near the cuff. I keep meaning to fill it in with a Sharpie, but your idea is so much more fun!

Oooh! I love this craft-along! Is it okay if I fake join a swap to make a package not for myself, but for a friend not on craftster? I've been wanted to craft a care package for her for months but I keep putting it off for one reason or another. This could be exactly the motivation I need to get it done!
