I have way too many ideas and way too many awesome fabrics in my stash...need to focus! I threw together a quick mug rug this weekend since I've never quilted before and thought I better learn about bindings and such.

I have a deathly affinity for the cute!

Hmm. I didn't like the tester mug rug I made for myself. Since I have never really quilted before I should stick to simpler patterns.

I'm about a third done with both rugs. I'm liking the looks of them so far, but I'm uncertain of how I should bind one of them, colorwise.

I tried to look up some sort of semi-regular size for these things, but I didn't really like any of the answers. The size that seemed most appropriate at first was just a hair too small for my liking - and then of course I realized I have no idea what size mugs my partners tend to use, but by then I'd already gotten too far to change anything Roll Eyes (I have a friend who uses mugs large enough to serve soup, and another who uses dainty little coffee cups...)

What dimensions have the rest of you settled on?

"That's my lab table and this is my work-stool. And over there is my intergalactic spaceship! And here's where I keep assorted lengths of wire."

...oh, if it wasn't clear, I'm rarely completely serious. Smiley

I'm going to do about 5"x7"-ish. Precise measurements aren't my thing so it will be around that. Wink

the rug that I have together is about 9x11, and I was thinking it was to big .... but when I put a large mug and some cookies on it it seemed ok........
