A friend of mine that I've known since first grade is having her first baby! I started this a few days ago when I realized the shower was coming up. All of the sock monkey and mixers on the front are from stash (I got this cool grab bag from the Fat Quarter shop a while back...I had about 1/3 of a yard of something like 6 different sock monkey fabrics in it, from the 5 Monkeys line). I purchased an Ikea full sheet for the backing (actually my brother bought it for me, score!) and some solid blue for the binding. I've never used a solid color binding before but I think it worked out well because the front is so busy and it looks good next to the brown polka dot border! This is also the first time I've done a pieced back (the first pic)!  The shower is tomorrow, I hope she likes it! Grin

Yeah I guess it could be either, I really do like how the "back" turned out with the green fabric Smiley

Thank you! She loved it! Out of probably 30 + gifts she received 3 handmade packages, so I was glad I went this route! Also, she had brought her husband's baby blanket for me to repair!

Love this! The whole quilt is beautifully done, but I really like the blue binding. Not a clue why I like it, but I do.  Smiley

You always do such interesting color combos that seem to work really well--unexpected and very striking!

I love the happy colors you picked for a child...

ha ha I also thought I was looking at the right side at first---but with this quilt, there are TWO right sides!

Wonderful job!

I very scientifically picked colors for this one...fabrics in stash that matched the sock monkey fabric were chosen by right of already belonging to me! I wanted light blue for the backing, but Ikea sheets apparently don't come in that color. Grin

ha ha sometimes the best color combos come from what we have in our stash and what we have to make do...I am finding that since I have been working out of my stash, I have become much more creative! Cheesy

Nice how it worked out and that your friend loved your special gift!

Thanks! I still have a some of the fabric left and a large block I made that I didn't use, I am definitely planning on using it for a have-on-hand baby shower quilt!
