HI,

I'm completely new to crochet and i really want to make some lovely things. I can do the stitches, ive practised these in rows but i just don't understand the patterns. Its not the abbreviations, i understand those but its the way that the rest of the pattern is wrote.
I want to make the Garden scarf from this book and stitch it all together to make a throw to go over the bed. I didn't get very far!!!  Flower one, round one, i can do perfectly.
Round 2 i think i understand but it says that i should have 8 ch-4 loops  I'm not sure where the 8 chains are supposed to be and i've got 5 loops yet i've completed all the instuctions that are ch1, *sc in sc, ch4, sk next 2 sc; rep from *around, sl st in first sc to join.
I understand that i chain 1, single crochet in (i can only assume the single crochet in the ring) chain 4, skip the next 2 single crochets around the ring, go into the 3rd single crochet and repeat the instuctions, but that leaves me with 5 loops, any ideas??
and in round 3 i understand the Ch1, (sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, sc) but then it says in each ch-4 loop around..... what does this mean!?
Can anyone help me with the above??

I REALLY want to learn but this is driving me mad!

Any help at all would be lovely x

I had to take a look at the whole pattern in the book first to try and figure this one out.

So first you chain 10 and join with a slip stitch in the first chain to form a ring.

For round 1 you single crochet 24 stitches around this ring (not into the chains, just to make certain) and join with a slip stitch in the first stitch.

Then, for round 2, you chain 1, * single crochet in the first single crochet, chain 4, skip the next 2 single crochet *, 1 single crochet (first loop made), chain 4, skip next 2 sc, 1 sc (2nd loop made) and repeat the part between * around.
As you have 24 sc to begin with, you should have 8 loops of 4 chains (8 ch-4 loops as the book says) at the end of this round.

Round 3: first chain 1, then work the part between brackets (sc, hdc, 2dc, hdc, sc) in each of the 8 loops you have (around the chain, like you did in round 1) so as to have 8 petals by the end of this round.

Good luck! What colours are you using?
