I've made many gingerbread houses in the past, but this is my first house of cards! I had fun painting the face cards with food dye mixed with the royal icing. I used the Piparkakut cookie recipe from the New York Times. It has black pepper in addition to the other typical spices. Some of the cards are portraits of friends. My daughter helped too!
