The two quilts I thought were finished aren't, my 4.5 year old niecew hada major meltdown about the fact there were hearts and not cupcakes :S so we compromise and I said I would try to add some cupcakes - she wanted a giant cupcake with little cupcakes but I told her I wasn't going to throw out what we had.  so I will hand stitch a few (Cool cupcakes on, she said that would be ok, and then maybe her "craft for camping season" will be  a fleece cupcake blanket that she can help make,we'll see.

AWw sorry to hear about the meltdown over the quilt, but that's so little she can't understand the time it takes to make a quilt.  A fleece blanket sounds like a good compromise

Well I was able to find some fleece to make cupcakes so I will handsew them to the quilt, I think she'll be happy once it's finished, at least the 2 year old was thrilled with hers, and I know the 4.5 year old was tired yesterday so that added to her melt down, next week it will all be good, since she did say cupcakes and hearts woud be good, so I have made iron on patches and will secure them with a runnng stitch on the quilt.

I finally have some pictures to show of the yellow and gray/black quilt:

A little closer:

So, everything is just laid out right now, the only stuff that's actually sewn together are the log cabin-ish (because they aren't traditional log cabins) blocks.  Everything is laid out on that light gray background fabric but I am going to replace that with white to show the colors better.

It's not big enough, so I'm going to add borders...around the center square and outside the big squares that are their own border.

I am still not sure I love it but I think the white will help and at this point I'm committed so...I guess I'll learn to love it? lol!

i actually like the grey... have you auditioned white for the border around the grey... that might be all it needs to pop it up...

i like it anyway and may steal your grey idea when it comes time to sash my new wave yellow....

BethieB, I like the grey around the cabin blocks. Nice contrast with the yellows. Grey is my favorite neutral  Smiley
Waggonswest, love your applique. The backing is so cute too! Any kid would be thrilled to snuggle with those kitties! The red and white quilt is beautiful and fresh... Lovely quilting!
Little_g, the quilt for your niece is very sweet! Glad you were able to get the paw prints out easily... That would've freaked me out too  Cheesy
