So cute kwiltykate! Have you done a lot of applique? I've only done a bit, I'd love to hear some tips if you have any!

I mainly do machine applique, but am currently experimenting with 'needleturn'... great for in front of the TV . I do like the look of the quicker buttonhole technique as well, but its not that great on items that need to be laundered a lot (like most of my quilts made for babies and kids!)

Hoping to get back to the quilting after I finish a few swaps up

Hi girls!

Can I join in? I am only a beginner quilter, but want to do so much! I have been wanting to do a lightweight spring/autumn quilt for our bedroom for ages and I have a jellyroll that I bought ages ago and have been meaning to make into a baby floor quilt for my parents place (my sister has just had a baby and I'm due in May - I was planning to have it done before my nephew was born... I guess my new deadline is before he likes to lay on the floor a lot!)

so:

1. Queen bedroom quilt
2. Baby floor quilt for parent's place
3. Baby quilt for my baby (due May)
4. Baby quilt for my new nephew
5. I really want to try a chenille quilt (you know where you use the chenille cutter on several layers of fabric?)
6. I'm completely in love with the stashbuster quilt you linked edelC... and my FQ stash is gettinig way outta control so will be perfect http://buttonberry.blogspot.com/2011/05/stashbuster-quilt-tutorial.html

So there's 6, but I'm being very ambitious considering I'm a beginner and I am having a baby in 4 months... we'll see how I go! I know hubby will probably shake his head... BUT he might like the stashbuster! (He has told me I am supposed to be making my nappy bag first...hmmmmm)

so this is my sanity saving quilt I made last sunday..finally got my camera to talk to the computer



it is bright and cheery and I love it, it has driven me to searching the web for more FQ, so far I have resisted the temptation...the ones I love are $$ and the postage from the US is also $$ and I have a big stash of regular fabric, so I should use that...

I'm trying really hard to use stash, I am allowing myself to buy a bit of fabric if I really need a solid or blender or something. A friend gave me a gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop and I bought 4 yards of fabric! 2 yards of a great stripe that will work for my nephews as it's quite boy-ish, and 2 yards of Michael Miller pindot, it's a great apple green with tiny white dots, I think it will be great as sashing or binding.

I did quilt the top I finished the other night using that wonky argyle method. It turned out ok but would have been better if I'd placed the lines a little more closely together. Also, I should have pinned it a little more, it has more puckers than the last quilt I made. Haven't put the binding on yet, I meant to bind it with the backing but accidentally nipped it when cutting the excess batting off, so just trimmed it off even and will have to do regular binding

the more I look at my quilt in the photos the more mistakes I see, seems that taking a photo of a pieced top really shows the colour/shape balance..useful lesson for me...

I am totally lusting after some FQ collections, michael miller and moda amongst them, I am dithering about ordering, the big problem is if I order enough to make the shipping worthwhile, customs here add 20% (+20% of shipping cost) on top...ouch!...mind you the biggest disincentive is the many many many yards of fabric I already have in stash

Yikes that stinks. Guess you'll have to take lots of fabric with you when you visit the US then But then do you get dinged on customs when bringing it back into the country too?
