lol! I hate when the inspiration to finish leaves. Have you worked with the vinyl backed fabric before? I'm curious how difficult it is.

it can be ... tricksy.  and i usually tack quilt ( kinda like tie quilting) because i dont want to add too many holes for water to creep in... it makes a weirdly heavy but excellent ground quilt for picnics, and beach trips and at the absolute worst... it can be wrapped around you to help keep wind and rain at a minimum.  we dragon boat in the summer and some days are not so nice.  so having one of these babies tucked in the car can be a real life saver.  thats the main reason i use the wool blankey as batting. stays warm even when wet.

also the other two i have made.  i birthed' them rather than sandwiching and binding...

I like that idea of a waterproof layer in a quilt for a picnic/stargazing quilt..I wonder if you could  use a lighter plastic, like those really lighweight ones that they use in cheap raincoats. then it wouldn't have to be pretty...just waterproof..hmm..but then quilting and all those little holes, i wonder if that would affect the waterproofness..

personally i go to thrift stores for batting, you can still get loads of 100% woollen blankets here, they used to be used on all beds before Duvets hit ireland about 25 years ago, so they are pretty common and cheap.

thats where i get my woolly blankets too...

and i do keep the actual quilting really minimal... cause no one wants weird wet dots  on their back.after stargazing... usually just a short x (about 2cm) on the corners of the blocks.

I completed the first one on my list! I crossed it off my list and posted it~

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=369351.0

I think I'll make a list of the first post with everyone who wants to participate plus links within this thread to their lists. That way you can update your list easily.

He he.  My husband always tells the kids "I want a million dollars" whenever they ask for something.  At the thrift one day I cam across a kind of scratch felt piece of fabric that is a million dollar bill and HAD to get it for him for Christmas.  LOL  I plan to put some fleece on the back and piece some fleece around the bill on the front for him.  Silly huh?  he he

Cute! Whenever my nephews say they want something they can't have in a whiny voice (candy before dinner for instance) I tell them I want non-whiny nephews. Probably doesn't translate to a cute quilt!

Wow, you all have great quilty lists. Smiley  It will be so fun to see the finished projects!

I am trying to work on my first one, but I need to get my 12.5" square ruler from my mom's house so I can cut my main blocks easier.  I should have it tomorrow so I can really get working.

My Alice in Wonderland quilt is using the Atkinson pattern called All About Me and the fabric is from Quilting Treasures.  The fabric is printed with the artwork from the original publication of the book.  I am adapting the pattern a little because I am making it a little different sized than the pattern options and am adding a border.

Happy quilting!
