Ooh thanks edel! I didn't buy any kind of sashing fabric, but the more I think about it the more I think I might want to go that route. Mix tape would be awesome or a kind of modification on the stacked coins that oh fransson did that I used on that turquoise/green/blue quilt I posted a ways back (every other block is a full charm square rather than half of one so it goes big/small/big/small)

I am totally in love with the stacked coins. The baby quilt I did, I reckon if I had gone at it full tilt. i would have pieced the top in about two hours, including cutting the coins (from 5") squares. I love that if you have charm squares it is so fast!!.. Mine is blue, turqoise and a little purple tones with white sashing (that has a print of cherubs) I love it so much!

I got a load of fabric in the post today from an extremely generous craftster and so I thikn I might make a full size one for me. With all of the sashing the tops are really fast..and so pretty..I reckon they would lend themselves to quilt in the ditch too..so super fast..

mixtape is really pretty, but I reckon it is totally dependant on having the right toning/matching fabrics

Yeah I think the mix tape would work perfectly with the fabrics I have, I'm just not sure if I want to have to buy that much sashing. I would probably go with a cream colored sashing if I did that.

it is a big quilt though...have you any colour in stash that would tone?..I love working from stash..lol..it is all I can do, I wanted to make a stained glass quilt out of a jelly roll that someone sent me and tried to buy plain black cotton from the only fabric shop that is within a 2 hour drive. the fabric they had was so thin it was virtually see-through...so my stained glass will be with blue..lol

so many quilts..so little time...

What type of white do you use for these quilts?  I am having trouble finding white for my all white quilt...the quality of a lot of the whites seems inferior to me--a bit stiff and not tightly woven...I love the stacked coins...all of those are beauties!

Yeah I would adapt it to lap quilt size regardless lol! I am scared to go any bigger on my little machine. I haven't gone through my solids to see if I have anything that would work for sashing, but I kinda think I don't have a good one. The only one I can think of that I might have enough is a light/medium blue which would probably work with the fabrics I got. I'll have to take a pic of the fabrics later to post! Mmm fabric!

Are you looking for a solid white or a white on white Always? I use a lot of white on white (I have a tiny flower one I like and a swirly one I like). Kona solids by Robert Kaufman are always a good solid. Nice quality and not crazy spendy and comes in a ton of colors.

I use the kona solids by RK but I thought the white was still a bit thin...white on white is what I am looking for, but for the all white quilt, it is the quilting that shows and the fabric is not the star...an all white quilt won the best of show at our Annual Amish Quilt show about 5 years ago...it was gorgeously hand quilted...I want to make a small one sometimes in my lifetime!

Oh really? Bummer! Maybe some of the Egyptian cottons? Sometimes they feel a little nicer? How big of pieces are you using? I can send you some white on white out of my stash if you don't need giant pieces, I don't know if I have anything bigger than a 1/2 yard.

Oh wait is it a whole cloth quilt?

yes--I think I need whole pieces--the one I saw was done in thirds--well, not exactly...more like a wide piece in the middle and then large side pieces...the quilting was done in the side and top wide borders with a gorgeous design in the center...I might need to go to the local quilt shop to see what they have--I am sure they know what was used in that quilt...but thanks for the offer!
