bubblegum_phoenix- I am so sorry honey. Sending you hugs.

What size matchboxes are we supposed to use? I am terrible at math. I bought a set of matchboxes tonight. DH reminded me we have no matches in the house so it was a good time to buy some. Do we use the 2x2. That is the size we bought.

I got my matchboxes at Dollar Tree. They are in the kitchen utensil department.

I think it might be best to go by the number of matches the boxes hold - it should be between 30 and 40. The ones I bought for me and blupaisan are 32-count.

I printed a template from the swap-bot blog (http://blog.swap-bot.com/rachels-matchbox-template/)which is a wee bit smaller than the 40-count box I unearthed from my kitchen drawer which measures 5.3cm/3.3cm/1.5cm.  Seems awfully small...but therein lies the challenge!

ETA: The swap-bot template is for a 32-count box.  I'm in the UK so I guess our standard size is a bit different.

bubblegum_phoenix - I am so sorry hun.  you take all the time you need.  I'll still be here.  Smiley

I think I've decided that I'm going to make my own match boxes, but I really can't do anything about them until Thursday.  I need some card stock, but I only own black and red (you can't really see anything printed on black paper Tongue) and I really don't want to go out and buy a whole ream, so I'm going to pick up some individual sheets.  that way too I can have the box in a base color my partners will enjoy.  Smiley

I am rebelling against my card stock, and going with cereal boxes. It'll be more sturdy.

-edit-

Lol, not... WHOLE cereal boxes. >_> But for cutting up and stuff.

Out of curiosity, does that template not open correctly for anyone else?  It's all cut up and moved around when I open it....

Does any other pdf open that way? Could it be a setting in your reader to crop it to a certain page size?

Nope.  All other PDF's open fine.  I even tried it in another browser.  (Chrome & Mozilla)  Both just open a mess.  I can see part of the matchbox, but usually the page is divided into thirds.  The top third is clear.  The middle third is mauve colored and is shifted over from the top by about 1".  The bottom third is grey and shifted over about 3".

Oh well.  I just created my own template in Photoshop, and printed it.  It went together well.  My matchbox is about 90% complete, and most of my bits & bobs have been assembled.  Just waiting on some drying before I add the finishing touches.   Smiley
