Holy crap, so I finally got my scarf finished. The prep time was ENORMOUS. I cut a LOT of extra bits because I wanted a super thick puffy scarf that's appropriate for these northern Ontario winters. Lots of boring beige, and a little extra white plus some weird things I'd set aside specifically for my scarf (like the plastic "ribbon" with little rings on it every foot or so). Eventually I settled on 6 roughly-equal bundles as my strands. After much pondering, a bit of un-doing (the buttons totally didn't work out), and almost 3 hours of braiding on my floor with a rock to weigh it down and a quilting ruler to keep it even, I give you....

MEGA-RAPUNZEL!

It's 3.5 inches wide and about 3/4 inches thick. I'm going to hand stitch a few buttons to the top end, and probably also the bottom end once I figure out what to do with it. I'll likely just cut it off to match the top. AND, I field-tested it already. It's WARM! HOLY COW WARM! And it's so thick, I have trouble doing up my coat over it Tongue If I were to do it over, I'd make an 8 strand braid to reduce the thickness, and the width may increase by a half inch or so. But then I'd have the headache of managing 8 strands Tongue

My boyfriend of almost five years said, and I quote: "That turned out really good. It's one of the few things you've made that I like." Gee, thanks, hun Tongue

By the way, sorry for being AWOL so long! I've just been so blah overall, and staring at my six little piles of yarn didn't help any Tongue I'm SUPER impressed with everybody's scarves! I'm loving Slingmomma's sewn scarf, and I'm so happy to see Shdwstrm's turned out GREAT! I can't wait to see how Kanawinkie's and Craftyhsmom's turned out Cheesy

I'm with IdlersDesign: when's round 8? Tongue

Holy cow, that thick scarf looks amazing and warm!

Also, hooray! I finally got the last of my packages in the mail today! Here's a bit of a catch up!

This group is from Shdwstrm, she also sent two Canadian magnets for me to give my nieces so they can know one of the places their yarn came from, how thoughtful!

This group came from Slingmomma, really gorgeous colours!

and last but not least,

This group is from Myklia!

I laid everything out to admire and drool over, I was a little bit worried there wouldn't be an "even" amount of colours to satisfy both of my nieces, but you wonderful swappers did such a great job!
Now I have to decide if I want to wait until my nieces and my own schedule meshes up that we can make these together, or if I lose my patience and just make the scarves for them as gifts!

Sneaking in for a late-breaking update! I finally managed to snag a weekend when both of my nieces and I could get together and get our craft on!

I'm really glad I decided to wait and do it all together, I spread everything out infront of them and let them take turns picking out yarn until they were all gone, they had so much fun with this part and they totally picked different colours then I would have expected them too.

And let me tell you, doing the plating is SO much easier when you have three people!

The scarves turned out AMAZING! Both of the girls love love love them and I'm totally jealous, check them out!:

Sign me up for the next round, I want one of my own!!!
