Hey all!

I made this vest for my Plastics for Jewelry class this semester. It's made of fused plastic bags that I laser-cut with a lace pattern. Then I fused the pieces together with an iron.

Wow!  I would have not guessed that was made out of plastic bags from seeing the photographs.  Very pretty and love that it is recycled.  Great Job.

this is just too coool! seeing the thumbnail i thought it was fabric and wondered how you got it to stay up like that then reading you post and finding out it was plastic!!! That is such a cool way to reuse plastic bags. very talented indeed!!

That's utterly amazing!!!

Is it super stiff and uncomfortable?
I've fused plastic before and got very flimsy pieces as well as very stiff plastic pieces

Oh my god that is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about my work. Thank you!

It's not super stiff but I have to be careful putting it on. Once it's on it's pretty comfortable though. It's eight layers of plastic fused together.

This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen! I can't believe you got fused plastic to look so lovely and delicate. It really does look like something someone could wear to a ball or on their wedding day.

The 'lace' was so intricately done.  You did a wonderful job.  It looks so elegant!  I am not familiar with fused plastic, though.

Wow this looks amazing!

You fused it AFTER you cut out that lace pattern?! I don't know how you managed to keep the layers together so perfectly while you ironed it together.  I would love to make something like this, but since it would just be me and my exacto knife, I might go crazy first.

No I fused it and then cut it on the laser cutter. That would be insane!

Ohhh, that makes so much more sense!  I must have mis-read your explanation.  From the picture it looks like there is a seam between the vest and the collar - did you fuse that seam together or did you sew it? Did you have to do anything special to make the collar stick up like that?
Sorry I have so many questions, I just love that something so beautiful can be made from something people typically throw out!
