I think I am in love with it.  I might marry it.  But I can't get a good picture of it.  This is my biggest reuphostery project yet.  There is actual blood from my body in that couch (but just s little!)

The cushions are crooked on this one.

Love what you've done! Looks about 80  bajillion times better. Cheesy
I also had to do a double take. Your living room looks the same as mine (minus the awesome sectional). Same window placement, door placement, hole in the wall by the door ( with ledge), same paint color etc. If it was my house, that pic would have been taken standing in the kitchen.

Hmm... that was supposed to sound much less stalker-y. Roll Eyes

Thank you!!

hippiekinder - You must live in a newer house too.  The picture is actually taken from the dining room table - it the common room combo living area/dining room that new houses seem to have.  The xmas tree is behind that classy decorator baby gate - it's not usually there. The kitchen is a couple rooms away.  But the paint colors are the same?  That is weird!

I have recovered a couple other things I meant to post. Maybe I will do that if I can dig up the photos.  It's not as hard as it looks.

This is amazing, it doesn't even look close to the same couch. I love how it's so graphic against the wall color.

Do you have a close-up of the print? It's lovely.

Yaxbooty...

I have a 1940's type sofa and chair with the french wood work .,.. do you think (the fabric is clean) I can put hot glue on the original fabric and then sew the fabric for reinforcement? Do you think that would hold? I am on a limited budget and can not really afford the 60 bucks it would take to but one of those special furniture staplers... I thought I could do the same with the cushions after I added some more foam...

Ideas??? input???  really need it...lol Thank you

also... have you tried that spray on scotch guard for fabric??? Does it work?

mexi - I think you can make a really tight slipcover and sew it onto the couch where you need to especially if you don't want to keep the original fabric. Also, if you can take the wood off and put it back on, you can just glue the fabric under where the wood goes back on.

I think if you used hot glue where you want to sew, it might be hard to get a needle through the glue though. You could try using fabric or tacky glue too.  You might already have some, but if not, I'd get some curved upholstery needles.  They make it so much easier once you get the hang of them.  http://www.amazon.com/Dritz-Home-Curved-Upholstery-Needles/dp/B0009V0V5E

You could also use decorative (or plain) upholstery nailheads like this:  http://www.examiner.com/designer-furniture-in-national/diamond-head-upholstery-tacks-add-great-bling  You can use coupons at the usual places for a box of these.  It should only be a few dollars at Joann or Hobby Lobby.  I used them on the edges of the back of one of my reupholstery projects because I was just tired of messing with it and it looks good.

Does that help?

yes... thank you... I think I am going to bite the bullet and buy the gun and hook it up to my brothers compressor and ask him to help me...the sofa and chair have those tacks everywhere and I looked them up and they are expensive I think I will get some flat tacks and put them on then E6000 the rhinestone to the tack ... I think it will be around 40 bucks to do both of them this way vs. the 300 just for the tacks...

This is what it kinda looks like...

I want to paint the wood silver and do the sofa in turquoise.. and put some kinda picture on it... I think I will put a group of silver and yellow stars or a sun.... I don't know about that yet but first thing is first ... recover and conqure!!

Thanks for the tips... if you have anymore... I would love to hear them.... Big hug!

I would not touch that couch in the picture, other than to park my ass in it!

I didn't ask the scotch guard question.  I have used it where it's worked and where it hasn't.  Be sure to do a test patch before you spray.

I don't have any specific books to lead you to...I have several older and newer upholstery books and slipcover books.  I did the arms more like slipcovers.  I think any books with pictures would work best.

Also, be sure to pay close attention when you start taking things apart.  Try to keep the old peices as they are to use as patterns.  It helps to take pictures as you go as well.  It's too easy to forget how that went with this, etc.!

I love that couch!  I wish I had a big sectional couch that cheap that I could afford to recover like you have.  That is so amazing, it doesn't look like the same couch at all, you would have never known what it was before.  I love the black and white pattern.

Someone metioned painting the legs black...I went back and forth with that after I read it.  There is so much other wood in the room I have decided to leave them alone for now.

I hadn't checked replies to my posts in forever!  Thanks everyone!

I just got a book and winged it.  It's not perfect, but it is good.  I don't think anyone is going to pull off every pillow and turn it upside down to check my work!

I waited for the 50% off decorator fabric sale at Hancock then I had a 20% off entire purchase from Joann. I think I had to buy over 25 yards though.
