I have been working on this project for over a year and have finally finished it!  It was one of the very first projects I started so this is very exciting for me to have finally have finished  Grin  On to some pictures (clickable thumblinks per usual)!

You can see the ladder I'm standing on to get high enough to even take a picture of the whole afghan since it quite literally takes up the entire living room floor when it's all spread out.

Picture with me sprawled out on it for size comparison.  I am 6' tall and the blanket is roughly 8' tall x 7.5' wide.  I had only meant for it to be about as tall as me but oh well, haha

The afghan is 28 squares tall and 26 squares wide and contains 728 squares if my math is correct.  I reverse single crocheted around the entire blanket in black to help hide the ends and hold it together since it isn't a nice rectangle.  It's been through one round of blocking but will probably going through another one before I'm officially done.

There a couple more pictures of it on my blog along with a link to a pdf file of the chart I used for the blanket here: http://nerdyhooker.blogspot.com/2010/12/8-bit-yoshi-blanket-complete-for-now.html and here is a direct link to the pdf file where it can be downloaded: http://www.scribd.com/doc/45809950/8-Bit-Yoshi-Chart.

If anybody makes any sort of project using the chart, link me to pictures!  I'd love to see them!

Comments and questions are always welcome  Smiley

Wow, it looks so cute. Great colors, great effect, and wow, crocheting all around it must have been the hardest part.

It's not staying on the ground since I'm afraid walking all over it will ruin it, but everyone that's seen it certainly has thought it was very awesome!

Actually, reverse crocheting around it wasn't that big of a deal.  This may have been because I was delirious with drive to finish it at the time Wink  Single crocheting all the granny squares together was the most frustrating and time-consuming part by far.

And thanks to everyone else for the kind words!  It did take quite a bit of patience to finish, but I also took *plenty* of time off of the project to help keep my sanity, haha

Yeah, I wouldn't leave it on the floor for people to walk on, either.  Maybe you could somehow hang it up on a wall?  That would look pretty sweet.  Anywho, be proud of it.  Smiley

Yoshi looks amazing!

What size squares did you use?

I did 3 rounds of dc with an f hook that has put them at about 3.5" x 3.5".  If I had to do it again, I'd definitely make them a bit smaller Wink

And another thanks to everyone that continues to say such nice things about the project!

Thank you! I went and bought the yarn to start the project. What color are you going to fill Yoshi in with? I'm going with a sky blue. I might even add a cloud.  Smiley

If I ever get up the gumption to fill him in, it will be with a sky blue.  I just find it so hard to want to make a gazillion more granny squares! haha  A could sounds like a wonderful idea, you'll have to send me pictures of it!  If you have any questions for tips/tricks, feel free to ask! Smiley

Geeze! Pretty epic. And I thought my perler bead art took forever. I'd like to do more 8-bit art in crochet. I want to put together an art show called "Geeks and Crafts" and do nothing but things like cross stitch, crochet, sewing, perler bead art, and what ever "traditional" craft styles but with a gamer or geek twist. I have done a bunch of things already... I have a cross stitch that I'll be working on that is Wesley Crusher. Can't wait to get started on that!

That sounds like a great idea for an art show!  I'd certainly love seeing something like that and think it would be awesome to participate in something like it!

I really want to learn how to cross stitch because I love 8-bit art and want to try it in other smaller (and hopefully less time-consuming) forms.  My only problem with that is that I'll probably come up with some idea that will be much more involved so it'll take the same amount of time, haha

I've really been considering doing some things in perler beads but am coming up short with ideas for what I could practically use the things for.  I mean, I love 8-bit perler bead art, but can't really justify having a gazillion of them just sitting around my house unless I come up with a good use for them Smiley  Do you have any good suggestions?  I stalked you a little and found your Sonic box which is AWESOME, so clearly you're far more experienced in it than I am and must have loads of wisdom to impart on me Wink
