This is gorgeous! You are so lucky.

Does this type of scarf have a name? I've never seen one before.

It is called an ascot or slotted scarf. It comes from a very old pattern over 40 years old. I had to modify the pattern for it to gauge correctly with the yarn I used. My grandmother used to make these scarves when I was kid using very fine yarn.  (Grandma taught me to knit)

I so glad that it fits so perfectly. It looks great.

I saw some crochet patterns for scarves like that. Thought about it, but opted for something else. This one looks great, better than the crochet ones I saw!

I saw one of those on etsy, but yours is even prettier. I may have to try one of those sometime. I really like it.  Smiley

That scarf is really cute!  I had been thinking of knitting that pattern from handspun for myself, now I think I'll have to do it!

The pattern I used is here:

Be sure to check for guage. It is important. I had to cut down the number of stitches for the scarf to work. Just do a search on Raverly for knitted ascot. A few patterns come up. They are all very similar. But they all stem from the old ascot pattern from 40 to 50 years ago.
