the magic loop technique:

you've got a pair of circs.  They are too big for what you want to do.  What you do is divide the stitches in three sections:  a few on the right hand needle, some on the left one, and some in the middle of the cable.  The rest of the cable you pull it out at the sides of the middle section, creating a loop on each side with it, and this allows you to work in a similar context as if it were three dpns, only more flexible.  This way you can work on circs as small a circumference as you want.

Thanks so much, Soorawn! I'm knitting some leg warmers right now with Dpns, but I think I'll switch over and use the circs in the next size up, as I get to the wider part.
My Girlfriend is too tall and her ankles are freezing! She'll be really grateful if I can get these done faster!
