I did these for a Christmas present this year. These are hand painted converse with acrylics and then sealed. I drew the design on the shoes with a mechanical pencil, then used a sharpie to go over my design outline and then painted in the outline. The whole thing took me 3 days as I had to wait for the paint to dry completely before sealing them. I'm really happy with how they turned out. Especially since this was my first time painting canvas shoes. I think the next pair I do will be Draculaura from Monster High.  Seems to fit a pair of pink and black shoes don't you think.

Thanks for looking and as always C&C are welcome.

These are AMAZING! Can't wait until my arty teen wakes up (noonish?) to show her the possiblities instead of boring old shoes!

@ Kyanee- I used a spray sealer for acrylics that was specifically for water proofing and also was yellowing resistant. I believe it was made by Krylon. However, it does make the canvas a bit tacky, so you can't throw the shoes in the dryer or they will stick together or to anything else in there with them. They have to be hand dried or hung up to dry. But this way you can spot clean them by hand gently.

Impressive! Your colours and lines turned out very crisp! I actually just watched Totoro for the first time this week (why did it take me so long!?) so now I can be in on the cute tribute crafts too! <3

Thanks so much.  Grin
I was a bit worried with how they would turn out as it was my first time painting something other than paper. Its very additing though. I know have  done 2 and have 3 more drawn up. I just need time to paint them now.

These are ADORABLE.  And such a cute pattern on the shoes.  The pattern would have made it difficult to draw on I'd think.  It really works!

My sister in law would drop dead if she saw these. She's a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki. They're really cute!

Thanks all. Cheesy

The pattern did make it a bit difficult to see the pencil lines. But it was much easier once I used the sharpie pens.

These are really cool! I've been wanting to try painting shoes. Do you have any tips for a first-timer?

Uhm.... I sketch out a quick design on paper before hand so I had a hard copy of what I wanted. Also make sure the shoes are clean. My daughter had worn her shoes before I painted the Ponyo ones, so the pen didn't work well in places.

Also make sure your paints are fabric useable, so they bond with the fabric. You should see it listed on the bottle/tube if they are.

Just go for it! It took me a day to work up the courage to actually draw on these. I was so worried I would mess it up and then the shoes wouldn't look good.  But its actually really fun and stress relieving, for me at least. So just go for it. I'm sure you will love them.
