So I just got a dress form for Christmas, but... [looking for advice!]

It's too big! It's a size medium, and about an inch or two too big in every measurement. Will this form still work, or do I have to return it and get a small? I mean, I know the point is to get the form the be the most like you, but I'd like to keep this form for a while and I know I'm more likely to grow bigger than smaller over the years.

I've never used a dress form before, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I personally would take it back and get a smaller one.

If it's a few inches too big, then you won't be able to make clothing that fits you properly - it'll always be way too big.

Unless you feel that you'll be able to work with it, I suppose you could always make the clothing fit tightly across the dress form, but sounds like a bit of a hassle....

Take it back and get the size that matches you - you'll be very frustrated otherwise!

I would take it back, and think about what you want to use your form for. I know this sounds obvious, but I found that the only form that will make me happy is one that is plaster formed to my body to make me exactly. This is over kill for some people and the projects they want, but for others that do more experienced fitting (and are picky!) it's perfect. Best of luck!

Just an inch too big? I say it might not matter. If you aren't trying to make SKIN TIGHT clothes, your form has built in ease.

Honestly, I don't think it will make a big difference. Mine is an adjustable sized one so the measurements are all mine to the T...but it still doesn't have the right shape as me. Sure the bust may be the same, but my bust has more curve to it, my butt it bigger, my shoulders aren't as wide, etc, etc, etc.

A dressform from a store will never be the exact same shape and size as you anyway.

a few inches can change a lot.  Unless you are at the beginning stages of puberty I would change it for the smaller (not trying to be condescending- for all I know you could be at the beginning of puberty or 108 lol).  Good luck and have fun- I know you will!  If you can exchange it for more craft things then you could just make an exact dessmaker form of yourself using one of the tutorials- I've done it and with a friend's help it's pretty easy
