Felt Fishing Game

As a little girl I remember cutting out paper fish and attaching paperclips to them so I could "go fishing" with a magnet and some string.  I have wanted to make something similar but obviously more durable for my toddler.  When I stumbled upon this tutorial http://zitzmanfam.blogspot.com/2010/07/felt-fishing-set.html I was excited to add this to my daughter's X-mas list. 

I printed off the patterns and then went my own merry way and realized later when I came back that I changed some stuff up but I like what I did change.  I added fabric scales to both sides of the fish.  She left one side completely felt because she used velcro on the hook and wanted plenty of felty surface to catch the fish by.  I knew Aria would get easily frustrated with velcro so I actually sewed a magnet inside the hook and added D-rings to the fish. I also added a few more lines to the fin and omitted the eyes.  I plan on making a board with nails to hang the fish by and make hooks to hold the pole.  If she really likes the fish game, I will likely add a pond (maybe a fabric bucket) and a fishing basket to collect her fish in.

This is adorable! I love the tails of the fish - it just adds to the cuteness! I bet Aria has a blast with this for a very long time!

Oooh really cool!  I like the modifications you came up with.

If you make more fishes, maybe some of different sizes... like tiny guppies and large trouts! Maybe even a plaque for "catch of the day" or "biggest" or "smallest".

I will have to remember to make one of these fishing sets when my little one is at the right age.
