I wanted to make a pony to do with studying medicine, and in my research (Google Images, in case you're picturing me slaving over reference books) I came across this My Little Pony dissection by a guy called Jason Freeny who does this regularly with all manner of children's toys and then sells them for hundreds on ebay.

I thought his was as cute as punch, but possibly a little too cutesy for what I wanted to do. I also don't have hundreds of euro lying around, so I figured I'd just make one of my own (that's allowed right? If it's for my own use?). I wanted mine to be more Med-school dissection pony and less adorable skeleton creature. So I did it all up and then painted it all. My eyeless (have yet to paint the eye back in), ugly pony is all yellowed bones and inaccuracy. For example, it's spine should obviously run along its back but it doesn't because of the despair I felt every time I tried to get that to work for me. Maybe I should have worked with a smaller pony!  Roll Eyes

Thanks for looking!

Your project is amazing, don't fret! We'll just pretend the pony was really fat. :B

Ok, this is pretty interesting. I guess it must have problems with balance (so big skull O.o)..
And it's also pretty terrifying (when it's connected with a toy..), but just in the best sense Cheesy It looks like something from Morbid Anatomy blog.

I love this! The bizarre proportions of most cartoon creatures mean that you can get away with a bit of artistic license when placing the bones. The spine doesn't look to bad anyway - just tell people you're allowing for fat, muscles, etc. Wink

What material did you use? It looks like polymer clay, but I imagine that would have been a complete nightmare to get in and out of the oven whilst keeping the shape right.

Yeah, I used Fimo polymer clay, and the pony actually held its shape quite well in the oven - I did the body and head separately, and then put them back together later. It doesn't seem to have any balance problems so far even with the heavy head, so it's now standing placidly on my bookshelf! Thanks everyone!

XDDD  Awesome!!!

You should check out the MLPArena.  Currently, there's a run of zombie ponies with bits off and gaping wounds that you might think was hilarious.  There's a lot of customizers out there that you could get some great ideas from;)

Awesome!  I love all things adorable and gross, and this is both! Are you able to put the sides back together?  I imagine that it would be fun to show people a normal looking pony, and then bust it open to show off the insides...

I've seen quite a few reconstructed My Little Ponies, one of which was made into a Predator, but this is definitely the most inventive one I've ever seen.

Accurate or not, it's so cute and yet so twisted I simply adore it! Great work!

This is such a cool idea and you did an awesome job!! I've recently begun reconning dolls and am loving it.
My favorite my little pony I had as a child was a purple unicorn with a pretzel on her rump.
Mad props for making it yourself instead of buying...DIY for life!

Oh, and I wanted to mention that i've baked plastic toys without a problem. I keep it at 275 (the temp for baking polymer clay)...I think it would be easier to form the clay inside the toy shell and bake the whole thing. Just remember to open windows and turn on fans. Grin
