Well--I obviously need to practice reading charts and joining colors properly...I started the hat in the same I always did, but I need to use only 60 cast ons to fit my head...so deleted one of the hearts and tried to space them out around the hat...then I started the hearts, but after six rows, I realized that I must have miscounted because I was not getting the heart shape!! FAIL!

I frogged out the six rows and finished the hat using three colors: black, white and red...but no hearts! Sad

I am going to practice just making the hearts to see where I went wrong...but at least you got me interested in making a design...I wore my hat to work and everyone is admiring it... Cheesy  so SUCCESS!

Oh you're right....black hearts....I'm on it!!!
Thanks April, I'm sure her parents would rather she have a killer hat than more tooth rotting candy....lol!

You have way more patience than I, I have never tried to design a patten on a graph, much less try to follow one. Whenever I see works like this I think "How did they do it?"
So, so incredibly awesome!

Cute hat.  I'll have to add it to my "to do" list.  Would love to learn how to make my own charts, but I think I will stick to other people's chart for now.  Still learning to crochet.

I have never seen the convertable hat. I like this Idea. Love the hearts!
