Just to be extra clear....

Dotees are small art dolls, 3" to 5" tall with a loop for hanging. They don't usually have arms or legs but can if that's part of your design. They generally have a face and some have "tails" - a beaded thing hanging from the bottom of doll. See the galleries for ideas - they can be animal, vegetable or mineral and can be made out of materials other than fabric or felt.

ATCs are artist trading cards and measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches. They are traditionally made from card stock or thicker paper. The back should include the artist's name, date, contact info (some people include their email address) and a series number (#2 of 3) if you've made a bunch of them. You can repurpose playing cards or (gasp - don't tell your children) baseball or other collectible cards.

Inchies are one-inch square pieces of art. They are also made on card stock or poster board. YOU DON'T HAVE to buy anything to make these - use a cereal box. Save yourself some dough. You can cut these out individually but there are 1' punches available. They really need to be 1 inch and 1 inch only.

For the paper crafts, you can use images from magazines or books, rubber stamps, fabric, found stuff, junk mail, fiber, glitter, buttons - the list is endless. Wax resist, painting, drawing, sewing, packing tape transfer, collage and any other method you might use in your art journals or art-making are wonderful ways to make ATCs, inchies and even the dotees.

If the links on the first page aren't helpful enough, go to Google and Flickr and find lots of images and ideas. You'll see some Craftster peeps there - Phizzychick, audio and amaryllisroze.

Above all, mistakes are useful and don't throw anything away. You may ba able to use it. I am ripping all the gold and silver envelope liners from the Christmas cards I received - I don't have a plan in mind for it now but something may occur to me later!

inches are evil..you end up keeping every small random piece of paper that crosses your path..but swapping them is wonderful, you will eventually end up with something like this..

Wow edelC... I need 100 inchies now. Smiley  That's awesome!

sewarty- This type of swap is perfect for your first swap. It's rather small, so you probably won't get overwhelemed, plus it can be really low-cost. You can make really simple versions of all three of these things and have them be lovely, or you can go all out and make crazy-elaborate ones... it's all up to you! Be warned though- swaps can be VERY adicting... especially this kind. I've got around 30 Dotees now from doing these swaps. lol. Most of all- have fun!

EEEeeeeeeEEEEeeee Grin I hope I get in on this one - All afternoon I have been looking at this EXTREMELY informative swap, googling and posting images I like to flickr and my wist list   Embarrassed Shock horror a whole day of doing not very much eek  Shocked
I love the images of all of the dotees, atc's and inchies collected together! Simply stunning!  I cant wait to be involved in swaps so they can grace my sewing room walls!
I really dont do simple lol! I am all out elaborate with sprinkles and a cherry on top!
Do you swap in groups?  As I noticed some people recieved a few dotees from a few people in one swap.  I would love to do that to get all different styles - plus to know my work is all over the world would be fab!
I am sooooo excited by this swap.
When I first signed up I really wanted to do the birthday swap - but I figured that I have many birthdays to come and maybe I could possibly squeeze it in if I am fast on postage.  Too many questions, but can I send it before the send out date and if I have not recieved theirs but they have mine - can i sign up to another swap?
Thanks folks eeeEEEEEEEEeeeeee  Grin

Sewarty - lots of answers to your questions -

You can send when you're finished - all three at once or one at a time.
You post when you receive so we can all drool over the pieces and ask questions.
You won't be able to join another swap until I have given you feedback and all your stuff has been received.
And yes, I'll organize you into a group of 4 people so you'll make three dotees, 3 ATCs and 12 inchies.

EDIT: We're keeping sign-ups open for a few more days....read on for more info.
