FML, I had to be cut out of my creation =_=
«

December 21, 2010 06:21:36 PM »
I had a flash of inspiration yesterday while sewing a punkin for my lil cousin.... So I sketched out this really cute dress.... I started making it, and it didn't look too bad. Well, by the time I'd made most of it, a ton of horrible things happened.
1: It broke my sewing machine (Luckily my dad managed to fix it and get the dress free)
2: My sewing machine from hell decided to be a bitch and stitch the waist and part of the upper part into the skirt and the upper part was beyond repair, I managed to get the corset waist free.... Barely.... I almost lost it too!!!!
3: The zipper almost made my machine kill the dress
4: My sewing machine tried to eat the dress many times
5: I managed to get most of the dress made and I tried it on to figure out what to do next, and it was really really tight and small... Well, I managed to get it on....
6: It looked terrible.
Well, my mother was going to help me pin parts to it, but then she saw how horrible the back was and when I agreed to just scrap it, it turned out I couldn't get the dress off.... It was far too little to go over my hips, and it was also too little to get it back off over my head and whatnot and was stuck at my boobs. Please note, I'm 5'0, 98lbs, 32a, 31-26-33.... The damn thing should have been able to come off....
It wouldn't come off, and i wasn't going to wear that damn thing for the rest of my life, so I was like "CUT IT!!!!" and my mother actually had to cut me out of the dress -_-
I never want to sew a dress, ever again.... *grumbles*

Awwww....dang.
That just sounds awful!!! My sewing machine likes to plot against me as well. It's a conspiracy. Just don't talk about it too loudly or they'll know we've caught on.
Take a breather and don't let the machine from Hades stop your creative flow!!!

*hugs* My mom got me a new sewing machine for Christmas, yay me. But my drafting skills still suck. XD Along w/ my using likely the wrong fabrics and trying to make them work.

While this is horrible, I can't help but laugh at the thought of it all.
We all begin as neophytes, creating things that threaten to eat us or grow wildly on us without our say-so, as in my first crochet project. Honestly, we threw it out as we considered it possessed.
(ok, not really. but it really was quite hideous and not something we wanted to let our first child use)

Looking back on it, I can laugh at the incident because it is funny, but that dress, I kid you not, is still laying on the floor of the spare bedroom in the same spot. I can't even look at it w/o disgust lol xD

Reading what you wrote it seems like it was so not your fault, so it's good you cheered up. All machines develop personalities as they grow and eventually you will find one that suits you. Like rottenlittleboys said, we all have projects that decide they will make your life difficult. Mine was a kimono. half finished, and only because I gave up on the machine after the 8th time it jammed.

I used to fight with a sewing machine that was my aunts who left it behind at my grandmother's in 1976. It was old for her. I started using it it 1980 and held onto the thing until my husband bought me a new one in 2006. It would jam almost as much as it would sew and I became and expert ripper. I was completely amazed the first time I used the new machine and I could sew through a whole piece without stopping or ripping out a seam. I hope you love your new machine as much as I love mine.
As for drafting, you may want to look into simple styles first. I actually have designed a lot of things from medieval patterns I found through SCA web sites. The costumer's manifesto is a great source for medieval patterns as well as other projects.
http://www.costumes.org/advice/1pages/pattern_links.htm
. Do not be discouraged it all takes practice. Good luck on future projects.
