I started making ear cuffs half a week ago, and already LOTS of people were asking me to make a tutorial.
I made two.
One on the basic cuff, just to get the hang of it, and one more expanded, where you can use your own imagination.

What you need:

The 18g wire can also be 20g

1. Basic Ear Cuff

Cut from the 18g wire a piece of 2,5"

Bend the right end 3/4" 180 upwards.

Do the same with the left end, downwards.

Make a loop to the right with the round nose pliers out of the upper end.

Do the same with the lower end, to the left, in opposite direction.

Bend the side parts backwards around round nose pliers or a pencil.

Ready! Now you can attach beads or other thins to the bottom loop.

2. Expanded Ear Cuff

Cut from the 18g wire a longer piece f.e. 5"

Bend the right end  180 upwards. Choose your own length.

Bend the left part 180 downwards, but see that the middle part is app. 1"

Finish the upper end by making curls and loops with the round nose pliers. Attach a bead if you want.

Bend the lower part 90 downwards in the middle.

From this point I turned the piece around. Place a bead on the wire.

Bend the wire further to hold the bead in it's place.

Keep bending and curling the lower end and finish with a loop.

Bend the side parts backwards around round nose pliers or a pencil.

The center piece is done. Now you can attach beads on all the loops.

Prepare parts to attach to the center piece.
A tutorial on wire wrapping you can find on my blog.

I chose to attach a piece of chain to an ear pin.

Done!
Of course you can use your own imagination as much as you like. Everything is possible!

This....is....AMAZING!!! I absolutely love ear cuffs, I just never seem to find ones that I like without them costing an arm and a leg.

Thank you so much for doing this! I've been wanting to make some ear cuffs for a long time now, but have been too lazy to figure it out myself (or even look for a tut). Then I saw this today, awesome! Now I have no excuse not to make some... except maybe a lack of time  Tongue

Thanks so much! All week I've been trying to make pretty earcuffs like yours, but even though I got the basic concept, mines were nowhere as gorgeous!
Bookmarked for sure.

Thank you so much for the tutorials! I became obsessed with ear cuffs when I bought my first pair on Etsy about 3 months ago. They are just basic hammered sterling silver cuffs, and I wear them every day. I was eyeballing another pair of wire ear cuffs and my boyfriend got them for me for Christmas (which I got to open yesterday because I begged, haha). I bought some wire a few weeks ago wanting to try and make my own... and I failed miserabley! This is going to help me out so much!  Grin

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I do have a question though, how do you get the cuffs to come out so neat looking? I attempted it, and mine look kinda wonky.

I honestly have no idea. I make no special effort to make them look neat, they just come out that way... I have no special nylon coated tools or so (although I would like to have them  Cheesy )

WOW! I am going to try this for myself. What a really good idea! Ear cuffs went out of mainstream fashion years ago and its so hard to find ones that don't look cheap or nasty. It has never occurred to me to actually make one. I adore this. Right down to the stones and colours used. Fantastic idea. Just hope they come out looking as neat and professionally made as yours!

These are beautiful. I've always wanted cuffs! I've been having trouble finding proper gauge wire so I must keep an extra eye out (and perhaps make my boyfriend look too) for it. This is going on my wist and on my to-do list!

Thank you! Cheesy

Nice tutorial. I've never worn an ear cuff before but I can't wear pierced earrings because the holes grew over along time ago. I don't want to have my ears re-pierced so this is a nice solution to traditional earrings. Thanks!

Thank you SO MUCH for this tute... I just had to try it as soon as I saw it!! I didn't go as elaborate as your beautiful creations, but I made an attempt:

I's a bit wonky and IRL if you look very very up close to it, you can see some marks from my pliers... but still, I'm loving it!
Thank you again so much for giving us this tute... I will definitely make more!

Hi!
I know this topic was from a while ago, but I recently noticed someone had used on of these pictures in her deviantart gallery. As many of the other pictures were stolen off other websites, and deviantart hasn't done anything so far, I thought I should let you know.
