this year I moved in with a guy and after almost a year together we're celebrating our first christmas. By the ending of november we started discussing christmas decorations and realised that we had very different views on some Highly important matters. Like the christmas tree. To me it is absoutley forbidden to bring in the christmas tree in to the home before the day before christmas (at which time we will both be with our families). My guy however wanted a tree to decorate right at the beginning of december. I tried to compromize with the idea of miniature trees, but he really wanted a big one. Then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, someone (can't remember who to be hoenst) popped the idea "What if we didn't have a tree, but only decorations?". And since we're both weird and random people we fell in love with the idea and we designed our un-Tree and I put it together by the first advent and we decorated it together and now it's hanging there in the corner glowing all nicely and we love it.

It looks better in feal life though,my camera sucks at capturing the true beauty.
(My guy quickly noted the irony in how easy it is to vacuum under, when there are in fact no needles needed to be vacuumed...)

Since autumn is almost upon us and christmas soon will be here I thought I'd put in an updated with some semi-explaining pictures of how the tree is actually build, in case any one would want to copy they idea for this christmas, I got a lot of "why did you post this so late, I wish you would've shown this idea to me earlier" last year so I'm trying to atone for that now =)
This is the explainatory image I drew last year to show how it is build. It's basically metal hopes of diferent sizes, with iner and outer hoops so that all the innerone hangs together, and all the outer ones hangs from the respective inner one at the level below.
And this is what it looks like in real life, all twisted and uneven ofcourse because I'm a sloppy person who can't handle metal.
I just used thread to connect them (though folded twice or four times for strenght. The whole thing hangs from the star, on a different thinner metal wire gonig through the star

and this is what it looks like when not hanging. Takes very little space for the rest of the year, we just have ours hanging on a nail on the wall in the basement.
I love that it's all terribly badly done, but that it doesn't matter because as soon as the decorations and lights are on, the whole base becomes rather invisible because the eye is so focused on everything else =)
