Fantastical, my new buzz word. I saw something similar on-line and knew I had to try it. It’s the closest thing to fantastical come-to-life as I’ll probably ever get. (The butterflies are a bit hokey, but I needed something to cover the wire of the lights wrapped around the curtain rod. I’ll have to work on that little detail, I’m sure I can make it better.)

If you'd like to see it in action, here is a very short video of my bedroom window, lights turning on and off by remote control. (I know, right?!) It is such a beautiful, peaceful image to behold just before I close my eyes for the night. Click.

Very cool!  Are the lights just basically between the window and the curtain?  Love the way this looks, softly glowing points of light -- definitely fantastical.

Yes, you're right, the lights are between the window and the curtain. It took two strands of small Christmas lights (mixture of white and blue), one strand for each window. And it actually looks okay from the outside and even helps light the patio, so dual purpose!

Modified to add: Thank you! I'm so glad you like it as well as I do!

What a great idea. We're getting ready to move to Alaska- and my daughter wants to re-do her room, this will be a great way to dress up her windows- and provide something cheery during winter!

I can just picture the snow coming down as a backdrop to the glimmering lights, beautiful! I hope your move is all that you wish it to be.

What a wonderful idea and a great project! I love the film. It is so calming. I can imagine just laying back and enjoying the lights. A great way to enjoy your lights inside as well. Thank you for sharing.

The lights would make any sheer, even cheapies ones, look awesome! I hope you'll do it, you'll absolutely love it.

This looks so pretty! At first, since most of my room decor is a variation of red or green, I thought it would look to Christmas-y for me to pull off year-round ... but it's so pleasant and cute that I wouldn't even care! Then again, I imagine you could even change the decor to match the seasons. The points of light would look sort of like tranquil fireworks, if they were surrounded by some 4th of July paraphernalia.

Cute, simple look. I love it!

Thank you, Bexadrine, you're right, it IS tranquil. One of my favorite things to do is bring a friend or family member into my room, have them lay down on my bed and close their eyes (at first they're like, "Um, do what? haha). I shut my over-head light out, tell them to open their eyes and then I click on the window lights. The reaction is always one of surprise, "Oh! Ooooh! How beautiful!" and then they don't want to get up. I've had some lovely, quiet conversations this way, thanks to these inexpensive Christmas lights.

Hey, if you do put them in your window I hope you'll post a picture here, would love to see your interpretation of this idea!
