Me and all my cousins are each crocheting squares
that we're connecting into a huge blanket for our grandma.
My stitches are finally looking better, but I have a question about the pattern...

Starting Chain: chain 24.
Row 1: single crochet in each chain across
Row 2: chain 1 (to turn), single crochet in across the row.
Row 3: chain 1 (to turn), single crochet in across the row.
Row 4: chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), double crochet in each of next 7 single crochet stitches, chain-1, double crochet in next single crochet stitch and repeat 2 more times, double crochet in each of next 8 single crochet stitches.

SO, row 4 is my issue.
I'm guessing that when I chain inbetween the dc's, I would skip one of the single crochet stitches,
so it's sorta hanging mid air and makes a decorative hole?
But even so, wouldn't that be too few stitches to fill up the whole row?
7 dcs (8 if u count the chain 3), chain, dc, chain, dc, chain, dc, 8 dc = 22, and I have 24...
what am I missing!

Thanks so much for any guidance y'all can give me  Grin

Something odd is going on there, for sure...

My best guess:

After you chain 24, you should be doing your first sc into the second chain from the hook, which would make 23 sc.

Perhaps the part with the chains should be dc-ch-dc-ch-dc-ch-dc (for a total of 7 stitches) which, if you add the 8 on either side, makes 23.  And it would centre the spaces in the row, which would look nice, I think.

But these are total guesses!

That was fast!! Thanks!
My hole-y bits were so sad and lopsided!
Now they have some hope of symmetry!!
I'm gonna just go with your suggestion   Wink
