Thank you for pointing out tapestry crochet! Argh, another skill to master Wink

It does seem, though, that tapestry works better for larger areas of colour change, while this fair isle technique works equally well when you want to change colour for only one stitch.

I'm working on a picture tutorial, when it's up, I'll post a link here, too.

it looks very much like a half double crochet were you work through the back most loop of the previous stitch.
 
love the effect.
