I'm making an apron for a good friend, and it has to be done today because she's leaving tomorrow. My problem is the fabric that is supposed do hold the apron up, whatever it's called.
I have made it into a braid and sewed it down on one of the sides, and it's not long enough so she can tie it either. I was thinking about adding some elastic band that will hold it there, allowing her to make the loop larger if she needs to, but I'm not sure how big she likes it. I was also thinking about a button, but then I have the same problem with the size.

Does anyone know what I can do?

I always used an adjustable plastic buckle for my apron closures. I'm not sure if they have an actual name, but I'm sure you know the ones. Three prongs, plastic, snap together, you can usually see em' on backpacks. One side lets you pull through the strap but will hold tight under any sort of force; lets you adjust size pretty easily.
