This is from the September/October 2010 issue of Crochet Today http://www.crochettoday.com/crochet-patterns/spooky-spider.  I bought the magazine for the owl patterns (my sister loves owls) and was pleasantly surprised to see the pattern for a spider hat(my sister hates spiders).  But since it was too much work for a spite present, I decided to make a spider as a cat-sitting present for my friend Amy.

Amy's a law student at University of Richmond.  For those of you outside the 804, U of R's mascot is the spiders.  Since I wasn't going to attach this thing to a hat, I stuffed the spider's body and used some safety eyes.  I couldn't get the washers on, so hopefully I can trust a law student not to choke on the plastic eyes.  Obviously by opening and accepting the present she agrees I'm not liable for any harmful effects of incorrect spider use.
