Holy cannoli, man!  No offense to anyone out there, but I will NEVER make a rapunzel scarf again!  I had each of my girls hold the end of the group of yarn, and I made two scarves.  Their arms were killing them by the end of each scarf and it took me about two and a half hours, all told to finish them.  And the worst part was when the yarn got tangled.  Wow....

Bad luck I guess?  I make mine by myself and it would easily take me less than an hour to make two, but then again, I have a lot of experience.  Even so, I think the first time I didn't have too much trouble.  Sorry you did.
