I was invited to a masquerade for New Years Eve, and I was totally inspired. I spend a few weeks mulling over what I was going to do, then collected the supplies. First, even though I could have easily bought a premade mask at Michaels, none of them really fit my face like I wanted them to. So I bought some of that plaster gauze stuff and made a custom mask.

This is me making fun of the stereotypical Myspace picture.

It took me a while to decide if I would paint a design on it, or if I would cover it with fabric, then glue sequins on. Since the plaster didn't end up very smooth, I opted to cover the whole think with a fleece fabric, and tonight I started gluing on sequins. This is about an hours worth of gluing. I had to stop because the fumes were making me dizzy (and high...).

Anyway, my original plan was to cover the entire thing with sequins. However, I don't think it looks half bad with some of the fleece showing, and now I'm wondering if it would be too gaudy if I covered it all with sequins. Opinions? Ideas? I'd love to hear anything!

Looks great molded like that! I think all over sequins would look less sophisticated than now, but maybe a few more on the forehead would be nice? Great work!

I think masquerade ball = gaudy so if you choose to cover the whole thing, it will look spectacular. However, I really like the way the grey fleece looks. Maybe you could be a grey fox instead?

I always say, when in doubt, over do it. I think having some show would look nice, but for a masquerade more is more.

with or without all the sequins I think it looks really nice Smiley not too glamorous but not too plain.

Thanks for the responses! I think I am going to just go all out and cover the whole thing with sequins. When else am I going to get a chance to be so sparkly!  Wink

That looks great as it is! I like the eye details, especially. I love swirls and curls.
Personally, i think covering it in sequins could be overkill, BUT it is a New Year's Eve masquerade, so is there really such a thing as overkill when it comes to masquerade? Wink
