Hi all!  I dropped in on the local Anthropologie store a couple weeks ago and left with a hole in my heart because of these ornaments
http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?subCategoryId=HOME-HOLIDAYDECOR-ORNAMENTS&id=083097&catId=HOME-HOLIDAYDECOR&pushId=HOME-HOLIDAYDECOR&popId=HOME&sortProperties=&navCount=15&navAction=top&fromCategoryPage=true&selectedProductSize=&selectedProductSize1=&color=015&isSubcategory=true&isProduct=true&isBigImage=&templateType=subCategory

I went on a trip to Kenya in May and they reminded me of my trip.  Plus, they were made with recycled storybook pages, which I thought was just the bees knees. I wasn't willing to pay 16$ for them, though, so I decided to try my hand at making my own.  I made one for me and one for the prof who took me to Africa.

I couldn't get a good picture because of the shininess of the gel medium I used.  The giraffes are made with scrap paper, scotch tape, pages from an old Theory of Knowledge textbook, gel medium (lots of it!), and acrylic paint.

If I have time and patience, I may make a zebra too. We'll see.

These look way cuter than the original (they really needed some legs!  Cheesy) I just featured this project on Craftsters Facebook page. Thanks for sharing.  Smiley

They are adorable!  I like them 100% more than the one in the link.

Yay! I'm so excited to have made the Facebook page!  Thanks!

Gypsyeharte, gel medium is like acrylic paint, only without any pigment.  You can get matte or gloss, and the kind that I have is gloss.  You can buy it by the jarfull at any art store.  I like to use it for collage adhesive or to play with transparency and body with acrylic paints.  You can also use it to transfer images.  It's basically my favorite art supply.
