@repriserecord - I LOVE the lining fabric! Especially the way you lined the owls up inside the strap... Awesome!

I didn't have any old suits on hand to up-cycle, but I did use up some scrap fabric in my stash Wink
I also added some pockets since pockets are my favourite part of any bag!

Awesome inspiration, I (luckily?) don't have an ugly tweed jacket but I do like the pattern!

Inspired by the original poster's shoulder bag (I found via a random google search), I made my mum this backpack.  She loves both owls and cute things, and so absolutely adored it!

http://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/medium/336841_13Jul14_Owl-Backpack-1b.jpg

Made from a second hand tweed jacket, a second hand men's shirt for the lining, leftover felt in my cloth box, some quilting for extra padding inside (protection against being dropped) and some odds and ends for the straps etc.  The face opens upwards to access the bag and is held down by two magnetic studs.

It took about 32 hours to hand sew, more in the planning.  The little belly pocket actually took the most work because it was so fiddly.

I intended on taking more photos of the interior etc, but I actually ran out of time for its completion (I was still furiously sewing the straps on her birthday lol) so I totally forgot.  I will try to remember to get more photos next time I go and visit.  I am also hoping to add some tufty ears to it since it is looking a little square.  The ears didn't quite make it on in time lol.
