Crafting to keep insanity at bay.

I am a very tactile person; I love textures that make me want to reach out and rub my fingers all over them...(sounds slightly inappropriate I know lol). That being said I love making things with my hands, especially with unusual materials so these are some things I've made in the last couple of months for myself, friends, or my 3-D design class.

This was for a found art project for 3-D Design. This is right up my alley and all the trinkets and beads/buttons used were all from stash... Roll Eyes Part of the concept was the idea of hoarders and the consumerism of society. Make what you will of it  Smiley

I also recently started experimenting with crocheting with wire which, although my hands don't thank me, gives really awesome results with the structure of a form and the ability to create further from that point. These are some jellyfish I made for a swap out of different colors and thicknesses of wire. I ran out near the end; I would have liked to have had more of the thin tentacles but I am happy with how it came out.

I also have fun making junk dolls out of whimsies and polymer clay, with paint and other stuff added for good measure.

Another project from 3-D design, we had to construct armor for an animal of our choosing...can you guess what I picked  Smiley I wish I would have had more time to put more detail into the armor so it was truly functional but we only had about a week and a half of class time to get it done.

Last one I swear: I made another day of the dead skull canvas - love these guys. Also for a swap partner.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or comments, faves, etc Cheesy

Love them all... but especially the first.

It sort of reminds me of Chris Jordan's photograph of birds which you can see here ... http://planetgreen.discovery.com/slideshows/travel-outdoors/chris-jordan-midway-birds.html

DON'T visit if squeemish... it's plastic bits and bobs caught in the bellies of dead birds at the same time it's a very moving portrait what a wasteful bunch we are.

Wow, were the birds actually found that way, or did he arrange them to make a point? Either way as graphic as it is it gets the point across loudly. I found that when I asked people what they thought my piece was about, I got about 10 different answers. I like that it can be interpreted different ways, and apply to all of them to degrees.

They were actually found like that! Isn't that incredible?!?

Your's is sort of the reverse isn't it? Like the birds getting revenge by building people Wink

Anywho, I really like all your pieces.

I love the jellyfish. I cannot even imagine trying to crochet with wire, but the result is beautiful.

The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. . . . I would rather have cheese.
