I made this little paper tree as a birthday present for my dad.  I found online instructions for the base and for the leaves.  I made the trunk by wrapping some very fibrous paper (don't know what it's called :/) around some thin wire and smoothing it in place with watered-down PVA glue.  (I twisted some of the fibres on the trunk into a knot but that doesn't show very well in the picture).  The base is filled with dried chick peas for balance.

The instructions for folding the leaves can be found here: http://www.origamibonsai.org/foldingvideos.html (it's the video at the bottom of the page)
The instructions for the 'closed box' base are here: http://www.origami-make.com/box-square-closed.php
