Hello!  I sneaked in at the last moment.  I'm another in the 'I shouldn't do another swap before Christmas, but...' camp.  Smiley

Since we're all interested in kitchens, or at least what goes on in them, I have a question for everyone:

I'm planning to replace my kitchen counters soon, any tips for materials to use/avoid?  The only brochures/samples I've been able to find locally so far are for bamboo/wood which needs constant care, stone which costs a fortune, and various types of plastic-coated-chipboard which are quite affordable, but boy do they look cheap and nasty!  I currently have an older version of the plastic coated stuff in my very very old kitchen, and it stains really easily and always looks scruffy.  Fussy, aren't I?  Smiley

Avoid glossy surfaces! You can see EVERY fingerprint on them...

We replaced our old counters (our house was built in 1902, but remodeled sometime later with some hideous yellow countertops) with butcher's block...it was really affordable, not to much to maintain, and you dont have to worry about messing it up if you cut on it, etc
Concrete counters are really in right now too. There's alot they can do as far as staining and all.
....just some suggestions!!

My suggestion (and dream for my kitchen  Wink) is to look into concrete.  It can be colored, molded, glazed.. whatever.  And it will stand up to all the abuse you can throw at it.  Research it, I've seen some nice things done with it.  Anything in my kitchen has to be able take a beating because I am ALWAYS cooking/baking something.  I hope your kitchen space turns out beautifully!   Smiley
