I do think embellishments have their place...depends on what you are going for...but, I agree...after a while, you start recognizing certain shapes, styles, etc.  I think a lot of the stuff can save time if you start them off as the base, especially in altered art...but, I quit subscribing to a certain well know altered art magazine because after a while, it all started looking the same to me!  I saw no point in copying what everyone else was doing...to me, it is more fun to get inspired and put my own mistakes on it! Cheesy

I wish I were going somewhere warm...I am going about 2 hours away to Southern PA... Cheesy

Hanging with my family for my Mom's 82nd birthday!!

Yeah! I like my mistakes, tyvm! Cool

I was thinking about this when I was considering opening an etsy shop. I've seen a lot of etsy sellers that use the same single picture when they're selling multiples of an item, or listing the same type of item another time. I could never do that, 'cause no two of my projects turn out the same! Even if I'm making multiples of one thing, they're all just a little different--as I saw when I made the hairclips for my nieces and stepdaughter. Wink

I'm all for storebought and/or premade things--but only in limited circumstances. If that's all you're using for your projects, or if that's all your tutorial is telling me to use, I lose interest pretty quickly.

I did the sweat shop swap and HATED it...I did made wallets...I changed the colors and zippers and snaps, but after the 4th or 5th one, I decided I was never do that again! Cheesy

It was just not for me...but, I still love making them for birthday gifts and stuff if I can personalize them...and some people absolutely swear by that swap and love making the same things over and over...it is how your brain is wired that makes the difference...as they say, different strokes for different folks! Cheesy

Probably why I love ATC's so much...I have never made even close to the same thing!

Haha! I could see that. I definitely did NOT enjoy making the same thing over and over when I made those hairpins! I made 15 of them--3 of each color. And by 6 or 7 I was saying to myself, "Am I done yet Cry "

Now of course I'm wishing I'd made more of them at that time, 'cause there are two little girls at church I'd love to give these to, too, but I'm DREADING the thought of making more! They're not hard, they don't take long, or anything like that, but the redundancy kills me!

I definately get the repetitive thing, and yet, I keep buying into it.
matching quilts (30 quilt blocks)
matching outfits (2/holiday)
5 nook/apad covers
3 laptop sleeves
2 calendars (gotta get me butt in gear here)

And no graced, I have not posted pics yet - it all sill needs snaps and I am waiting for the tools:)

Its funny that you guys are talking about premade stuff. I literally just got back from Joanns where in the jewelry supply section they were selling rose pins made from zippers, and zipper necklaces which both could literally be made from basic supplies in the same store for half the price! I guess that particular vendor is trying to follow what is trendy now but it's kind of ironic that the original inspiration is handmade and half the point of the whole thing lol.

My nephew's 1st birthday is coming up in a few weeks, and as I was just getting around to sending a very late Christmas package (I know I know, bad aunt. I had everything before Christmas, it's just somehow I didn't get it sent out.) I thought I'd throw in a present for his birthday.

I got the idea off of etsy and thought I'd give it a try. It's pretty cute and I plan on making another one for my son in the next few months. Plus, as a bonus, it's all stuff I had lying around. Oh, yeah, it's a patchwork color cloth book.
