I just don't even go into those swap threads anymore. I get to enjoy all the galleries without having to make or mail anything or having to find places to store any new goodies I get in return. Honestly, these days seeing them is just as good as having them!
That said, there's nothing quite so fantastic as opening a parcel of fun goodies handmade by another crafter. I love that. But since I don't have room for anything anymore I use lots of great things I've gotten in swaps as gifts. I have family and friends who just adore handmade and I have zero time for crafting lately so this is a way to still have a nice gift stash.

Finally got one of the WIPs done, a small reading journal for a friend in my book club's birthday party last night. I feel a little better that at least something is finished, anyway. (And she seemed to like it.)

The center design on the fabric is needlepunched. (Anybody know a good substitute for the now-gone DMC thread? This stuff--Sullivan's--sucked.)

Gone? What were you using? I've never needlepunched. Does it require a specialty thread?

The journal is really nice, by the way.

There's special thread for needlepunching? I've not tried that so I have no idea.  Undecided

I love your journal graced! Did you add in the marker with the beads? Is that attached to the cover?

I am amazed at how many ways a journal can be covered or made!

I bought about one yard of this really cool suede-like fabric for making journal covers...I need to go look at a few tutes...

Altoid tin embroidery kit...*sigh*  I shouldn't go look, but I know I will! Smiley

oh my goodness...I just realized something...hang on...

Had a free day, but a storm decided to come and dump rain and snow on me, ruining my plans.

So I was forced to make earrings all day instead. Ironically none of the projects I needed to do though. I need to finish up one more pair and then I will post pictures.

That journal is really cool Graced! I love that fabric!

Wellll, Troublet and evilSabina, .....thanks to your shock that DMC is "gone," I just looked online. It exists, still. The lady at Hancock's told me that DMC was out of business so they now carried sullivan's. I--stupidly--believed her and didn't try anyplace else for thread. (Or hopefully what happened was that I misunderstood her and only Hancock's has discontinued carrying it.) Hmph. This stuff sticks to other skeins, feels like it has some sort of microscopic briars that catch as it goes through the needle, and is dull. Plus, when I trimmed up a few too-long loops, it fuzzed immediately, like a dandelion fluff. Argh.

It's easy, and you just use ordinary embroidery floss (polished DMC, please). It's the ultimate chill craft--put your mind on meditate, and go.

The threads are waxed cotton (though I've used hemp, ribbons, whatever), knotted, and sewn into the seam.

I picked up a tiny split ring from the floor today, though, and thought THAT might make a cool way to attach a bookmark, too. Maybe hand-stitch it on to the cover and attach a chain/ribbon to it?

alwaysinmyroom, if you find a cool tute, would you share it?  Smiley

Congrats Lillianpearl!

shan-E-bear - love the scarflette and fingerless gloves! Gorgeous colors!

I spent far too long on a bracelet this weekend, but I really like how it turned out. It is a comfortable weight and hangs just right on my wrist! It is made from turquoise chips, small coral beads and copper beads. (I bought the coral quite a while ago before I was aware of the issues of unsustainable harvesting practices)

(these thumbnail pictures are tough to see, or is that just me and my eyesight?)

I posted about it here.
