and no, I just folded the MASS of fabric into quarters, eyeballed it, cut out a circular hem, then refolded off center, and cut out the circle for attaching the bodice to it

This is absolutely beautiful! And I know what you mean about right handed scissors.
My gran bought me some spring loaded scissors late November, and it's the best thing ever. They're great for lefties and they reduce your blister stuffs.
