I'm really excited to introduce a new challenge for the Purses, Bags, and Wallets Board! I heard about this from Sew, Mama, Sew, working in conjunction with the Green Bag Lady. I think it's a wonderful challenge and am happy to spread the word about it and have our own challenge here on Craftster!

The Green Grocery Bag Challenge: A Holiday Sewing Project Benefiting Mother Earth

Fact 1: US consumers generate 4 million tons of wrapping paper and shopping bag waste during the holiday season alone.

Fact 2: The US goes through 100 billion single-use plastic grocery bags every year.

Fact 3: This year, you can make a difference!

How? The challenge is this:
Wrap your holiday gifts in reusable cloth grocery bags.

That’s it! By doing this simple thing this holiday season you will cut down on the amount of wrapping paper entering the waste stream, while also getting multi-use bags into circulation. Not to mention the fact that your gift recipients get a bonus gift that they can use all year long! It’s win/win for earth and your loved ones!

Here are the details for our challenge here on Craftster:

During the week of December 26th through January 1st (9 pm, Pacific) you can post pictures of presents you wrapped and gave in a grocery bag you made. You may only make one challenge entry, and the first picture/bag you post is what will be voted on, but please post additional pictures within the same post if you make more than one bag!
Voting will open on January 2nd and run for one week.
TWO winners will each receive a $25 gift certificate to the Sew, Mama, Sew shop
If we get at least 10 entries, I will also give out some half yard cuts of home dec weight fabric as additional prizes (the perfect amount and weight to make another grocery bag!)
