So I figure since half the world is eating soup to stay warm and the other half is eating ice cream to stay cool, I would share a pattern with you all on how to keep your hands protected from your bowls!
I made these this past weekend from reclaimed sweater fiber, acrylic.

I held the fiber right next to Lion Brand Hometown USA super bulky yarn, and I can hardly tell the difference!

K Hook
skein of Super Bulky yarn

Chain 3
R1: 12 DC into the third chain from hook, slipstitch into top of first DC (12 DC)
R2: chain 2 and DC 2 into same stitch. 2 DC in each DC. Slipstitch into top of first DC. (24 DC)
R3: chain 2 and DC 2 into same stitch. 1 DC into next DC, 2 DC into next DC, go all the way around alternating 1DC and 2DC. Slipstitch into top of first DC. (36 DC)
R4-7: Chain 1 and SC into same stitch. 1 SC into each stitch all the way around. Slipstitch into first SC. (36 SC)
R8: Chain 1 and SC into same stitch. 1 SC in each of the next 3 SC. Chain 9 semi-loosley. Skip 7 SC and SC into the next. SC into the next 8 SC. Chain 9 semi-loosley. Skip 7 and SC into the next. 1 SC into each of the SC the rest of the way around. Slipstitch into first SC.
R9: Chain 1 and SC into same stitch. 1 SC in each of the next 3 SC. This is where you reach your chain, 8 SC over chain, skipping the 7 SCs from R7. SC into the next 8 SC.  This is where you reach your next chain, 8 SC over chain, skipping the 7 SCs from R7. SC in each SC the rest of the way until you reach the first SC. Slipstitch into first SC. Fasten off and Weave your end.

**If you dont want handles on your bowl cover, crochet rows 8&9 the same as 7.**

This will fit most average sized bowls.

Please let me know if you have any questions. C/C welcome.

With handles rolled down

These could also make cute little baskets!

I love it! Some of our bowls don't seem to heat up very much in the microwave, but other ones burn my hands after being in for one minute! Great solution. Grin

Such a great idea. This would be great for serving at the table to keep food warm.

That is another great idea!
I made a ton of these this past weekend, and a lot of them are going to my brother and his gf and my cousin (who just got a fancy dorm room with a kitchen) for Christmas gifts!

What a great idea!  I'm always using potholders to hold my soup bowls - I really need these!

Thanks!
