I've used dichroic glass with masks before, but never a glass piece this large and complex. They're actually kind of hard to find for an affordable price.

Addendum: Didn't mean to be misleading. XD Only the center piece is dichroic glass. The rest of the mask I hand sculpted from a kind of resin.

so pretty, i love how the shape of a mermaid lends itself so well to a mask around the eye like that. plus the fiery red and cool turquoise look so stunning together, its a great combination. beautiful.

Nope! It's a kind of sculpting resin, is the best name I can come up with for it. Just the gem is glass. =D

No, it cures over time...but not based on exposure to air. I painted it using acrylics and a few other additives to make it iridescent. Grin

Stunning!  Great job!

I've never seen anything like that!  How exactly would you do something like it?  Is it blown glass, or clay encased in glass?

robin, as soon as I saw the thumbnail, I knew this was your work.  Smiley  I stumbled across your masks one day on etsy, and I now have about 20 or so of them wisted!  Cheesy  all of your masks are so beautiful, but I'm a bit partial to the Kitsune and Okami/Amaterasu masks.  Wink

As I say it's all sculpted resin save for the glass centerpiece. =D The gloss comes from a sealant I use to protect the colors.

Also, to KK, daaaw! ^_^ I guess that means they're distinctive! I plan on making more soon...but I'm waiting on a supplies to arrive in the mail.

what can I say?  I'm OBSESSED.  Cheesy  Wink  an Ammy mask would go well with the tattoo I plan on getting of her.  Grin  once I'm finally settled into a good job with some money to blow on stuff other than bills, you may just be hearing from me.  Wink  besides, I need a new mask to liven up my wall.  I've had the same ones up there for like...10 years or so.

Hah! Well, just drop me a line whenever that happens. I do custom masks, too, so you have time to think about just what you want.

Your masks are spectacular! I would find it hard to find inexpensive masks like these because it is dichroic glass. I would assume the materials are fairly easy to get; however, the process must be extensive!
