It was a wet Sunday afternoon, and all was pretty slow.
I found a kit my late grandma had given me years ago...

And so I decided to make it - not entirely to the pattern/instructions.
I modified the windows which were meant to be simple rectangles of gingham - and who wants that when you can have embroidered window frames and 'life-like' curtains? (although as my boyfriend pointed out; how can the curtain by flapping on the outside of a closed window....). As no cottage is complete without a chimney, I fashioned a one with smoke...
My boyfriend, understandably, became bored at me sitting sewing, and so went through the button jar, finding an appropriate button for the door knob and a bell for the little tea gnomes to ring....

in this photo it looks wonky ... it is a bit, but the photo doesn't help Wink
I was thinking I would do a kit like this (all the pieces of fabric and wadding were pre-cut) and send as christmas presents?
Voila, hope you enjoy!

It might be wonky, it is adorable!
And not following instructions/patterns makes it more your own thing, KWIM?
As for the curtains, your windows are open, and they open to the inside  Wink

I like the cottage tea cosy and I love your idea about it being Christmas presents!

I shall be using the 'windows open inwards' theory on the next fuss-pot Wink
