If you are making toys, a place you could consider sending to is Backpacks 4 Aussie Kids. They fill backpacks with pjs, toiletries and small toys for children placed into emergency foster care. Some of these kids are taken from their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and passed from family to family, so a small comfort toy and familiar items can be a great comfort in that sort of situation.

I can't knit or crochet or quilt, I can however sew, stickweave, paint and am always willing to give crafts a try. I have tried crochet but it's obviously something that needs time and practice to learn well enough to make stuff worthy of giving away. I'd like to donate time to a charity, I've had trouble finding a charity I can help with my skills - they all seem to want knitted or crocheted stuff. I live in a rural town that's not near a city. Does anyone know of an Australian charity that accepts donations of things I can make? How does one get in contact with a group who does charity work like this?

Thanks Smiley

Hi, I know this is a relatively old request of yours, but have you thought of contacting the cancer council?  They provide subsidised accomodation for rural patients receiving chemo or radiation in the big cities and I've just found out today that they accept donations of finished items (such as hats, scarves, etc) for sale at the 'hotels' and the money raised is then used to upgrade facilities and provide excursions for patients so they're not just having treatment and spending the rest of their time in their rooms.  Just a thought.

Oh that is an excellent idea. I haven't done much crafting for charity yet, I ended up sick myself but the idea is still there so I will note that down and one day hopefully soon I'll be able to send them a few things. Thank you so much for an excellent suggestion Smiley

For knitting crafts, there is:

I am currently knitting for Wrap With Love (first link) and have previously knitted things for KOGO.
